Read the guide Guide 03 / 2 min readLearn how to connect Google Ads activity with qualified leads, booked jobs, and sales without confusing clicks for customers.
Read the guidePaid advertising reports are often full of numbers. Impressions, clicks, click-through rates, and average cost per click can all be useful. But if you own the business, you probably need one answer first: What did our advertising accomplish, and what should we do next?
You don't need a fifty-page analytics presentation to get there. You need a report that connects advertising activity to outcomes your team recognizes.
Show platform advertising spend for the exact date range. Separate it from fees paid to anyone who manages the account. If your business pays $2,000 to Google and $750 to a manager, your total outlay for the month is $2,750. The manager's invoice shouldn't be presented as if it were part of Google's media charge.
A counted conversion might be a phone click, a form fill, or a completed booking. Those are not all the same thing. Define which events the business considers qualified. For a plumber, that might be service-area calls for services the team offers. For a dental practice, it might be booked and attended consultations, subject to consent and privacy requirements.
If qualification data isn't available, say so. Avoid inventing an estimated revenue number just because the dashboard wants one.
A report might miss offline calls, bad lead routing, jobs booked in another system, or final sales. Mark those gaps instead of pretending a campaign is more measurable than it is. Tracking design and customer follow-up are often as important as the ads themselves.
A useful example report can show hypothetical spend, lead counts, a change log, and decisions. Just label the figures Illustrative demo — not real customer results. When you evaluate an actual manager, ask to see a real, permissioned example or walkthrough.
A PPC report should help you decide what to continue, stop, and test. If it cannot answer those questions, the next step isn't necessarily more spend; it may be better measurement.

All guides / Next: Switching ad managers without starting over
Switching who manages your paid search shouldn't require handing over passwords, rebuilding every campaign, or losing years of performance history. A careful takeover starts with access, evidence, and a written plan.
Confirm the business has administrator access to its Google Ads or Microsoft Advertising account and retains control of the payment profile. Keep your historical campaign data. Use platform-supported access or manager-link invitations rather than sharing login credentials. Different platforms have different access models; confirm the appropriate permissions before granting them.
Record what the account looks like before changes: campaign names, spend, existing conversion actions, targeting, top search themes, lead sources, and any known tracking gaps. Verify whether current lead counts represent inquiries or real qualified opportunities. Flag changes that would affect a live business before making them.
A new manager may find real problems. That does not mean every campaign should be rewritten immediately. Group proposed work by urgency: tracking errors and unsafe settings first; clear waste and high-intent opportunities next; more speculative tests last. Agree on priorities before implementation.
Implement approved campaign changes and keep a short log: what changed, when, and why. Watch for unintended consequences. If the account is small or lead volumes are inconsistent, avoid claiming certainty from a few days of data.
Share spend, tracking health, lead indicators, changes completed, unresolved risks, and the next recommended actions. A first month may reveal measurement issues rather than deliver instant growth. The point is to create a stable operating rhythm.
Who keeps billing control? What permissions do you need? How is the management fee calculated? Which campaigns are included? What work is excluded? How can we leave if it isn't a fit? A serious provider can answer these in writing.
A takeover should make the account more understandable, not more mysterious. At Arc Ascend Labs we look before we change anything, get access the official way, tell you the price up front, and follow a careful first-month plan.
We take over the ads you already run and report in plain English every month. Or start with a free review, no passwords needed.

Clicks are measurable. Customer value is what makes advertising worthwhile. The challenge for a growing owner-operated business is connecting the two without inventing numbers or building an unnecessarily complicated analytics system.
Level 1: Traffic. You can see impressions, clicks, cost per click, and search terms. That tells you how advertising is being delivered, but not whether it works commercially.
Level 2: Inquiries. You can count calls, form submissions, appointments, or other tracked actions. The risk is that spam calls, wrong-service requests, and people outside your service area can look like success.
Level 3: Qualified outcomes. You can recognize leads that fit your business, and sometimes connect them with appointments, estimates, completed jobs, or sales. This information is usually more useful for deciding where to spend the next dollar.
Pick a small number of outcomes your team can consistently label. For a service business, it might be "qualified service-area call" and "job booked." Make sure someone can reliably mark those outcomes in a CRM or shared system. Then check that the ad account is measuring the correct events and that lead-handling procedures are consistent.
Do not upload personal customer information into advertising systems without checking consent, privacy, and platform requirements. For healthcare and other regulated businesses, tracking and remarketing may need special restrictions or different approaches.
Return on ad spend is useful only when revenue attribution is reasonably sound and appropriate to the business. If the company closes sales offline or over several weeks, a click-to-sale model may undercount or misassign value. A simpler "cost per qualified inquiry" or "cost per booked job" might be more decision-useful at first.
Ask: are we on budget? Are leads arriving? Are they qualified? Are there specific locations or services attracting poor-fit inquiries? What will we change next week? Spend ten minutes on those questions before automatically raising the budget.
Better PPC performance begins with knowing what success means for the business. More traffic is not the goal if the additional traffic doesn't help produce customers.
